Scott Burke 8' Soft Top Surfboard Review(Costco Exclusive)π♂️
Scott Burke 8' Soft Top Surfboard Review: One of the Best Beginner Boards for the Money π♂️π€
The Scott Burke 8' Soft Top Surfboard is an incredible value at around $116, especially when you consider Costco's excellent return policy. If you're looking for an affordable beginner surfboard or a fun soft top to keep in your quiver, this board is hard to beat.
Compared to my 8' Wavestorm, the Scott Burke feels very similar in overall size and performance. However, it seems slightly thicker and may have a little more volume, which should provide excellent paddle power and stability.
One feature I really appreciate is the Futures-style fin box system. This is a nice upgrade over the Wavestorm's screw-through fins because it allows you to easily experiment with different fin setups as your surfing progresses. The included leash also feels like a step up in quality compared to the leash that came with my Wavestorm.
The board does have a plastic tail block, which seems somewhat unnecessary. Thankfully, it doesn't affect performance and could likely be removed if desired.
So far, I've only had the opportunity to surf it twice in small, choppy, less-than-ideal conditions, but I still had a blast. It paddles and rides very similarly to the Wavestorm, which is a good thing. I suspect it will perform even better when the waves clean up.
Who Is This Board For?
The Scott Burke 8' Soft Top is an excellent choice for:
- Beginner surfers under 200 pounds looking for a stable, forgiving board
- Intermediate surfers wanting an inexpensive board for smaller days
- Experienced surfers looking for a fun soft top that can still handle larger surf when conditions allow
Pros
✅ Excellent value at around $116
✅ Costco's generous return policy
✅ Stable and easy to paddle
✅ Futures-style fin boxes allow fin upgrades
✅ Better-quality leash than the Wavestorm's included leash
✅ Fun for beginners and experienced surfers alike
Cons
❌ Plastic tail block seems unnecessary
❌ Availability can be limited depending on the season
Final Thoughts
Overall, I think the Scott Burke 8' Soft Top Surfboard is one of the best surfboard deals available today. One thing to keep in mind is that my local Costco stopped carrying them early in the summer last year. If you're planning to buy one, I'd recommend calling your local Costco first to check availability.
If they're sold out, the Wavestorm is still a fantastic option, although it typically costs about $100 more at retail.
I hope this review helps, and I'll update this post after I get more sessions on the board in better surf conditions.
Happy surfing! ππ€π
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5 for value and beginner-friendly performance)
