Poolskim Review

I purchased the PoolSkim in March 2022 during peak oak pollen and leaf drop season in North Florida, and I’ve been very impressed with how well it pulls in floating debris.

It did take a little adjustment of the pool return jets to create the right flow, but once dialed in, it was easy to get a strong enough circulation to produce a consistent venturi effect.

One thing I’ve noticed is that performance can vary depending on wind direction. On days when the wind is blowing away from the PoolSkim, it doesn’t pull in as much debris. However, on most days it works extremely well. I’ve also found that leaving a corded pool vacuum in the water can sometimes interfere with debris naturally drifting toward the skimmer.

The only issue I’ve had is that the PVC elbow developed a small crack after a few months near the screw connection point. This caused occasional pressure loss, which would sometimes dislodge the unit into the pool. Fortunately, replacement parts are available directly from PoolSkim, so I didn’t need to replace the entire system. The repair cost was only about $13. In hindsight, the crack may have been caused by using a different screw than the one provided.

Overall, I’m very impressed with the PoolSkim. It has significantly reduced the amount of manual skimming needed, especially with the heavy tree coverage around my yard. I’ve even considered installing one on my hot tub as well.

If you deal with leaves, pollen, or constant floating debris, I highly recommend it.
